KUCHING, March 25: The tragic accident along the Serian-Sri Aman road that left three people dead last Friday (March 20) is still under investigation, with police urging the public not to speculate on the incident.
In a TVS news, Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner, DCP Saifullizan Ishak, said the investigation is still at an early stage, and any action will be taken based on the findings.
“We are conducting the investigation first. If there is any wrongdoing, of course, we will take action. So don’t rely on social media; trust in our investigation,” he told reporters after the 219th Police Day Commemorative Gathering 2026 at the Kuching District Police Headquarters today.
The comments came amid social media posts questioning the actions taken against the drivers involved.
Saifullizan stressed that it would be unfair to draw conclusions before the investigation is completed.
“Any action will be based on the rules of law, nothing less and nothing more. We must be fair to all parties. Don’t believe any story; let us investigate. Social media is normal as various stories will appear, so remain calm and let us complete the investigation,” he added.
The accident near Kampung Selepong Jinggau involved a Proton X70 and a Perodua Alza near Kampung Selepong Jinggau. Three victims in the Proton X70, comprising a 70-year-old man and two women aged 22, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other passengers in the same vehicle, boys aged six and four, sustained head injuries and were taken to Sri Aman Hospital for further treatment. The three occupants of the Perodua Alza, consisting of an adult woman and two boys, only suffered minor injuries and were also treated at the hospital.
On other matters, Saifullizan said no serious complaints related to fireworks have been recorded in Sarawak during the festive season.
He also noted that police operations monitoring crimes such as house break-ins are ongoing, with full data to be announced later.
Additionally, the police are focusing on efforts to curb oil smuggling abroad and identify all illegal oil depots across Sarawak in collaboration with other agencies. Operations are ongoing, and no arrests have been made so far. — DayakDaily
