KUCHING, Dec 18: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen has cast his vote at the SMK Kuching High polling centre this morning.
Accompanied by his wife Grace Tan, they arrived at 8.51am.
Chong is contesting in the N9 Padungan seat, which is a DAP stronghold against Kuching South City Council mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng (GPS-SUPP), Raymond Thong (PBK), and Lina Soo (Aspirasi) in a four-cornered fight.
His parents Chong Siew Chiang, 83, and Sim Yaw Sik, 78, arrived much earlier to cast their votes before meeting their son at the same station.
After casting his vote, Chieng Jen told reporters that the overall process was very smooth as voters were seen complying with the standard operating procedures (SOP) to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Another voter, Yeo Kim Tiong, 65, who cast his vote at 8.45am said he doesn’t expect much change to happen during the 12th Sarawak Election.
The jovial retiree who came back from overseas to exercise his rights added, “Perhaps they will be a change in the next General Election. Anyway, the overall voting process today was orderly and I am pleased with how the SOPs are applied,” — DayakDaily
