KUCHING, May 25: Five private hospitals across Sarawak have started to administer Covid-19 vaccines today.

These five private hospitals are Timberland Medical Centre (Kuching), Borneo Medical Centre (Kuching), KPJ Kuching Specialist Hospital, Rajang Medical Centre (Sibu) and Colombia Asia Hospital (Miri).

This was disclosed by State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Dato Sri Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian who visited Timberland Medical Centre, Kuching with SDMC chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas this morning.

Uggah talking to the media at Timberland Medical Centre this morning (May 25, 2021).

Dr Sim, who is Local Government and Housing Minister said previously that more than 30 private general practitioner clinics and seven private hospitals in Sarawak had registered with Protect Health Corporation (PHC) to assist in rolling out Covid-19 vaccine shots to the public on appointment basis as per the MySejahtera app system.

Today, he said the number of these medical establishments that have joined the National Covid-19 Immunisation programme (NCIP) have increased to 42.

“Currently, seven private centres have been approved to administer vaccines, but only five of them started the vaccination roll out today,” Dr Sim told DayakDaily.

According to Dr Sim, the vaccines administered in private medical clinics and centres will remain free.

PHC however, will reimburse RM14 to the health care providers for each vaccination.

Meanwhile, despite private hospitals and clinics being allowed to administer vaccines, walk-in vaccinations are still not allowed as vaccine shots are given based on appointments arranged through registering via the MySejahtera app. — DayakDaily
