Primary school headmaster charged with abuse of power

Ismail Idris, 58, pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court today

KUCHING: A primary school headmaster was charged with abuse of power involving a cooked food contract amounting to RM86,190.

Ismail Idris, 58, pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court today.

He was accused of allegedly instructing catering company Mazuri Katering to appoint another caterer, Ismas Catering, that allegedly belongs to his wife Saloma Kipli to provide food under the Supplementary Food Programme to SK Gita 2.


The school is currently known as Sekolah Kebangsaan Tan Sri Dr. Sulaiman Daud.

The offence was allegedly committed on July 1 last year in his office.

Ismail was charged under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 which carries a maximum 20 years’ jail sentence and a fine of not less than five times the value of the gratification, or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer Ikhwan Mohd Ibrahim prosecuted and Ismail was represented by counsel Khairil Azmi Hasbi.

Ismail appeared before Judge Nixon Kennedy Kumbong who released him on RM10,000 court bail in one surety.

The Court fixed Sept 28 for case management and trial from Nov 13 until Nov 15.

Ismail was also ordered to be present at the state MACC office every Saturday.
