KUCHING: India’s ban on exporting goods to other countries has resulted in the price increase of red onions.

“Because of the policy of the Indian Government to ban exports as there is a huge shortage of supply in their country,” said Chong Chieng Jen, Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, after the press conference of e-Tunai Rakyat initiative at a local shopping mall on Friday night.

“But as for the goods supplied from the other countries, there is only a slight increase in the prices,” Chong added.

According to Chong, he said that if there was a shortage on one of the supplies, the other supplies would have adjustments on the price of the goods.

“The price adjustments will only be for the red onions only,” he added.

He said that the price of the red onions depends on where the consumers got the supply from as there are many substitute goods suppliers. —DayakDaily
