KUCHING, April 17: Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd’s Tan Sri Paul Koon and his siblings are now the fourth richest Malaysians, amassing a net worth of USD5.4 billion, according to Forbes’ list of Malaysia’s richest in 2025.
According to a report by Forbes, Malaysia’s stronger ringgit, up more than five per cent in the past 12 months, has helped to boost the collective wealth of Malaysia’s top 50 richest to USD90 billion with 30 of them seeing an increase in their fortunes compared to a year ago.
Three new names have also entered the ranks of Forbes’ list of Malaysia’s wealthiest including Lee Thiam Wah, founder and CEO of 99 Speed Mart Retail Holdings, Malaysia’s largest operator of mini-marts by number of stores, debuting eighth place on the list with a fortune of USD3.5 billion.
New entrant, the Krishnan family, heirs of a telecom-to-energy empire built by reclusive billionaire Ananda Krishnan who died in November, accumulated a wealth of USD5.3 billion.
While another fresh face to the list is that of former police officer Tan Boon Hock, whose portfolio includes a chain of laser eye surgery clinics and a company specialising in AI-powered traffic management systems.
At the pinnacle of Malaysia’s wealthiest, Robert Kuok, now 101 years old, retains his seat as the richest man in Malaysia, with his net worth now at USD11.4 billion. He owns Kuok group, which has interests in hotels, real estate and commodities.
Tan Sri Quek Leng Chan, the patriarch of the Hong Leong Group, remained second with a USD1 billion jump in his net worth to USD9.8 billion, driven by robust sales at his family’s finance-to-food conglomerate
The Teh siblings, heirs to the Public Bank fortune, at third place, hold a collective wealth of USD5.9 million, a rise of nine per cent. – DayakDaily
