KUCHING, June 16: Sarawak will continue to prosper if the people steadfastly uphold the prevailing peace and harmony in the state, said Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg here today.

Speaking to reporters covering his Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) this afternoon, he said the state never had any issues with the big number of different races living together, and this is something to be proud of.

“It has been Sarawak’s culture all this while. This is Sarawak’s cultural wealth. That is why I think we (Sarawak) have a very bright future if we continue to defend and preserve it (unity and harmony).”

Turning to the Gawai Dayak, he said the state-level celebration would be held here on June 22.

“This year, together with our Dayak community, we will be celebrating together the state-level Gawai Dayak. This will strengthen our friendship.

“With this kind of platform, we will be able to, hand in hand, develop Sarawak.”

Meanwhile, more than 10,000 people visited the CM’s Hari Raya open house today.

Abang Johari said he was glad that Sarawakians of all races and creeds had visited him in droves on this auspicious occasion.

“This is a very good tradition, where people from various racial and religious communities come together to make the celebration more lively.

“I believe this kind of culture and tradition will strengthen Sarawak and its people.” — DayakDaily
