KUCHING, July 22: Fifty-one individuals were awarded the Diamond Jubilee Commemorative medals in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of Sarawak’s independence.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg presented the medals to the recipients at a presentation ceremony at the Waterfront Hotel today.
Four former State political leaders who served in the federal and Sarawak Cabinets and a former Sarawak Secretary were among the five who received the ‘Pemancu Peringatan Terbilang Jubli Intan’ or Diamond Jubilee Excellence Commemorative medals.
There were Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang, Datuk Amar Tan Sri Leo Moggie Irok, Datuk Amar Tan Sri Leonard Linggi Jugah, and Datuk Amar Tan Sri Bujang Mohd Nor.
Meanwhile, the six recipients of the Diamond Jubilee Commemorative Gold medals are Abang Johari’s wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang; Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, and Dato Sri Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian; and two others namely Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Rosmiati Kendati and Jabu’s wife, Tan Sri Dato Sri Empiang Jabu.
The other 40 recipients who received the Diamond Jubilee Commemorative Independence medals include Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Datuk Amar Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar; Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi; Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing; present and former federal and Sarawak Cabinet ministers, senior government civil servants, businessmen, and sports personalities. — DayakDaily
