KUCHING, Feb 9: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg began a two-day official working visit to Singapore to strengthen economic, renewable energy, and digital transformation ties between Sarawak and the republic.
According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), Deputy Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and climate change advisor Dr Angelia Liew San Chuin were present to receive his arrival today.
As part of the official agenda, the Sarawak Premier is scheduled to meet with Singapore’s Foreign Minister, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, tonight, with discussions expected to touch on various aspects of bilateral cooperation, including trade, investment, as well as joint efforts to address climate change.
Tomorrow (Feb 10), Abang Johari will hold an informal meeting over breakfast with Singapore’s Minister of Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry, Dr Tan See Leng.
The dialogue is expected to focus on opportunities for cooperation in the renewable energy sector and the digital economy, which is in line with Sarawak’s aspirations to become a green energy powerhouse in the region.
The highlight of the visit will be a lecture by the Sarawak Premier at the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute, a leading research institute in Southeast Asia.
In the lecture, he will outline Sarawak’s strategy for accelerating the use of renewable energy, digital transformation, and building economic resilience in the face of global challenges.
The event will be attended by policymakers, industry leaders, and academics, making it an important platform to discuss action on climate change, economic innovation, and strengthening regional ties.
The working visit is expected to strengthen Sarawak’s role as a leader in sustainable development, as well as expand investment opportunities and cooperation with Singapore in strategic areas. — DayakDaily
