KUCHING, March 22: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg today witnessed the handing over of three Toyota Mirai units from SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd to Sarawak Deputy Premiers.
The hydrogen powered vehicles were presented to Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian by Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain,
The event is a key milestone for Sarawak in pursuing green mobility and green energy initiatives.
Speaking to reporters after the ceremony, Abdul Aziz said there are only five units of the car in Malaysia.
“Actually, these cars are (meant) for the federal government, but because there is no hydrogen station in the peninsula and only in Sarawak, so all the five cars are (now) owned by us,” he said.
He added, at the moment, Sarawak has two hydrogen fuel stations which are located in Darul Hana and Batu Kawah.
“After that, the plan is to build (more stations) in Bintulu, Miri, Sibu and Sri Aman,” he said.
Meanwhile, Abdul Aziz said the first Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) unit in Sarawak will be on a trial run for about a year in Kota Samarahan.
“Other units, probably three to four units, will also come next year, until we get everything we need for the commercial operation in 2025,” he said. — DayakDaily
