MARUDI, July 25: The newly upgraded Masjid As-Salam in Marudi has officially unveiled its stunning new facelift following the full completion of a three-phase project worth RM2.48 million.
After officiating the Baram Regatta 2026 launching ceremony today, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg visited the mosque to inspect the completed works, according to a news report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).
During his visit, the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) briefed the Premier on the project’s extensive upgrades to the mosque’s interior and exterior facilities.
Phase One of the project, which cost RM1.47 million, was completed on Aug 24, 2023, featuring a new Nusantara-style roof to replace the original dome, fresh paint, new fencing, and new prayer hall carpets.
Following that, Phase Two was completed on July 15 for RM495,945, boosting overall comfort through new interior walls, upgraded toilets, revised piping, and air conditioning.
The project concluded with Phase Three on June 29, costing RM197,000, where grand chandeliers were installed and commissioned to enhance the main prayer hall’s overall ambience.
Abang Johari took the opportunity to tour the mosque grounds to ensure its facilities were safe and comfortable, later performing his Zuhur prayers before departing.
Also present during the visit were Marudi assemblyman Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala, Baram MP Dato Anyi Ngau, and other local dignitaries. — DayakDaily
