ABU DHABI, Nov 7: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg believes that Donald Trump, who recently won the United States (US) presidential election for the second time, will seek to align his policies with global issues, especially climate change.
During an exclusive interview with news portal Nikkei Asia, he was asked to comment on Trump’s recent US presidential election victory, noting the importance of observing the Trump’s stance on climate issues, which could have implications for regional and international environmental initiatives.
“You have to see Trump’s policies when he was president–the first administration. Now, the incoming administration is after a lap of four years; a lot of things happened within four years.
“Perhaps, I’m sure the US will try to seek alignment with the global issues we are facing, particularly climate change. We’ll see what will happen in the next few months.
“I think it’s quite premature at the moment to determine what is the policy of Trump at the moment,” he said during the interview taking place at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition Conference (ADIPEC) 2024 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) yesterday (Nov 6).
