KUCHING, July 27: Companies from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and China are set to invest a total of USD 20 billion in solar power production in Sarawak.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg revealed that he recently received delegations from both countries expressing interest in the investment.
“With the combination of the two investments, Sarawak can produce an estimated 3 Gigawatts (3,000 Megawatts),” he stated while attending the Natural Resources and Environmental Board (NREB) 30th anniversary dinner at Borneo Convention Center Kuching (BCCK) yesterday (July 27).
Additionally, Abang Johari mentioned another proposal for an agrovoltaic project in Bario, Baram.
He explained that with the installation of elevated solar panels, the area underneath can be utilised for agriculture, a concept known as agrovoltaic. ā DayakDaily
