“Tomorrow, I’ve been invited to speak at the ASEAN Women Economic Summit 2025 (AWES 2025) on the role of women in ASEAN. The summit focuses on women, and they’ve aptly named it ‘Women Shaping the Future of ASEAN,’” he said.

AWES 2025, which runs from May 24 to 25, is organised by the Women Leadership Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI), in conjunction with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship this year.

With the theme ‘Empowering Women, Strengthening ASEAN: Driving Economic Integration for a Resilient Future’, AWES 2025 gathers over 700 women leaders, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and change-makers from across Southeast Asia.

Meanwhile, speaking about the biography launched at the event, Abang Johari said the book serves as an inspiration to women.

“Today, after listening to Tan Sri Dato Sri Empiang Jabu, I have certainly gained insights to share with the ASEAN women leaders tomorrow in Kuala Lumpur.

“Using the input from Tan Sri Dato Sri Empiang Jabu, I will highlight Sarawak’s commitment to empowering women,” he added.

The book chronicles the life and contributions of Tan Sri Empiang Jabu, a prominent Dayak woman leader who once served as the chief of the Women’s Wing of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) and played a significant role in empowering women both at the grassroots and national levels. — DayakDaily
