KUCHING, Feb 16: Premier Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will be driving himself on the road from Long Lama to Long Kevok in Baram after Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

He said he wants to test out the road section that was recently completed.

“Datuk Amar Douglas (Uggah Embas) has invited us to drive on the road from Long Lama. After Hari Raya then.

“I will drive the car myself to Long Kevok just to test out the road. I used to go to Long Kevok without any roads when I was looking after the Penan there,” he said.

Meanwhile, Abang Johari said the Sarawak government would continue to bring treated water to the rural areas in Mulu despite the local community’s objection.

He said he could not fathom why the local people are rejecting the supply of clean, treated water.

“The ‘tuai rumah’ (longhouse headman) and some other people objected to have this treated water (plant). I don’t understand. We are giving them good (treated) water yet they object.

“Whatever it is, as a responsible government, we will continue to discuss (negotiate) with them and then deliver.

“Because treated water supply is very important, as well as electricity supply,” said Abang Johari during a press conference after visiting the Miri Port Authority in Miri today.
