MARUDI, Oct 10: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is scheduled to officiate the launch of the 142-kilometre Miri–Marudi, Marudi–Mulu (Kuala Melinau), and Long Panai–Long Lama (MMMLL) Road Project on Nov 15, a major infrastructure initiative aimed at transforming connectivity across northern Sarawak.

“The MMMLL Road Project, as it is known, represents one of the Sarawak government’s key development undertakings in the Baram region. It spans approximately 142 kilometres, with an additional 33 kilometres of spur roads to enhance accessibility in the interior,” he said.

Gerawat explained that the main alignment comprises two major packages with Package One covering the Miri–Marudi and Long Panai–Long Lama sections with a total length of about 68 kilometres, and Package Two (Marudi–Mulu), extending an estimated 74 kilometres.

“In addition, 14 minor bridges and nine major bridges are planned to strengthen road connectivity and accessibility for remote communities in northern Sarawak,” he told a press conference following the first meeting of the Working Committee for the Launching Ceremony of the MMMLL Road Project held today.

Gerawat said the project is expected to boost linkages between major towns in northern Sarawak and open up new economic opportunities for rural communities in Baram, in line with the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 once it is completed.

The MMMLL project will also connect towns and rural areas across the northern corridor, providing easier access to tourist destinations such as Mulu and driving socio-economic growth in the interior.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government and Marudi assemblyman Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil said the implementation of the project reflects the Sarawak government’s and Recoda’s unwavering commitment through the Highland Development Agency (HDA) to ensure all regions benefit from the state’s development agenda.

“The MMMLL project is not merely about building roads, it’s about building opportunities, connecting communities, and ensuring that rural Sarawakians also share in the benefits of progress and modern infrastructure,” he said.

The launching ceremony will also feature vibrant cultural performances showcasing the diverse ethnic groups of Baram and is expected to draw a crowd of about 2,500 people.

This high-impact project is targeted for full completion by 2030. — DayakDaily
