BETONG, June 16: The long-awaited Batang Saribas 1 Bridge in Pusa, which marks a historic milestone for connectivity in Betong, will be officially launched by Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on July 19 at 10.30am.
According to a press release, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the Premier will also officiate the launch of the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA) during the same ceremony.
“We feel it is most appropriate for the Premier to inaugurate the RM375.5 million Batang Saribas 1 Bridge and also officially launch the BDDA,” Uggah said after chairing a coordination meeting on the event preparations and organising committee today.
The 1.55km bridge, which is now open for public use, fulfils a six-decade-long dream of the local communities for a permanent crossing over Batang Saribas.
Uggah who is also BDDA chairman further said the agency, established in September 2022 as one of Sarawak’s nine regional development agencies, plays a vital role in driving infrastructure and socio-economic growth in the division.
“It is high time to inform the people of Betong about the progress BDDA has made so far,” he added.
He called on the public to attend the double event in full force, noting that organisers are expecting a crowd of no fewer than 5,000.
Also present at today’s meeting were Betong MP Datuk Dr Richard Rapu, Batang Lupar MP Mohamad Shafizan Kepli, Krian assemblyman Friday Belik, Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri, and Betong Resident Richard Micheal Abunawas. – DayakDaily
