Premier to highlight Sarawak’s green economy vision at Asean Australia Business Forum in Sydney tomorrow (Aug 29)

KUCHING, Aug 28: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is set to deliver a keynote address titled “The Powerhouse of Green Economy in Asean” at the Asean Australia Business Forum 2024, which will be held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Sydney on Thursday (Aug 29).

According to Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Abang Johari and a delegation from the Sarawak government safely landed at Sydney Airport at approximately 2.33pm local time today.

The Premier was accompanied by Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, Sarawak Financial Secretary Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, and chief political secretary to the Premier Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.

Following his keynote address, Abang Johari will join a panel of distinguished speakers to discuss the topic of “Energy Transition and Green Economy”.

The invited panelists include Fortescue Energy’s Asia Pacific president Eva Hanly; New South Wales (NSW) Circular Economy Innovation Network director Prof Veena Sahajwalla; Viva Energy Australia director Hon Robert Hill AC; and Thailand’s Enserv Holding Co Ltd chairman Jimmy Tanachat Pochana.

Later, the Premier will witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Malaysia Australia Business Council (AMBC) NSW and the Sarawak Australia Business Chamber (SABC) at Harbourfront Seafood Restaurant, overlooking Sydney Harbour.

Asean Australia Business Forum 2024, scheduled from Aug 29 to 30, will bring together leading experts to share insights across various fields, including agriculture, food security, green and renewable energy, with a particular emphasis on decarbonisation, digital transformation, the visitor economy, medicine, and healthcare.

The Sarawak Premier is expected to return to Kuching on Aug 30. — DayakDaily
