KUCHING, July 15: Serian is expected to increase its gross domestic product (GDP) up to RM1.4 billion by the year 2030, says Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said presently, the division recorded RM600 million of GDP growth.
“Our target is RM1.4 billion GDP for Serian by the year 2030.
“By then, our population will increase and Serian’s growth is aligned to our Sarawak’s growth between 6 to 8 per cent,” he said when officiating the Serian Divisional-level 60th Anniversary of Sarawak Merdeka celebration held at Serian Conference Centre (SCC) here today.
Abang Johari also expressed confidence that Serian will be able to achieve the target and subsequently, develop into a smaller version of New Zealand.
The same event saw Abang Johari officiate the Serian Master Plan 2030 which was prepared by Sarawak Economic Planning Unit (EPU).
Meanwhile, Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn who is the chairman of Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) declared the Agency’s commitment to develop the areas under its jurisdiction covering 10 constituencies, namely Opar, Tasik Biru, Tanjong Datu, Serembu, Mambong, Tarat, Tebedu, Kedup, Bukit Semuja and Balai Ringin.
Amongst those present were Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar and Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah. — DayakDaily
