SIBU, Jan 11: Sarawak could potentially be the first State in the world to produce synthetic gas for energy generation within the next five years, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
According to a TVS news report, he is optimistic that Sarawak will not be left behind in generating energy using the new method involved.
“According to experts, I have discussed with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah, in five years, the world’s energy will change. Not using oil or gas energy. It will use what is called synthetic gas—a mixture of carbon and green hydrogen.
“This gas will be used to produce energy, a new method and hopefully, Sarawak will be among the first in the world to use this technology. This process is called methylcyclohexane,” he said.
He said this when officiating the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Central Zone branch delegates meeting today.
Abang Johari believes that it can be implemented with Sarawak’s wealth of natural resources, making it an energy hub not only in Malaysia but also globally.
It was previously reported that Japan has chosen to cooperate with Sarawak in its decarbonisation efforts and strengthen the country’s energy security.
Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said that among the sectors that he wants to realise with Sarawak are ammonia production and energy generation to power gas turbines. — DayakDaily
