KUCHING, May 10: The airplanes used by Sarawak’s boutique airline will run on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) produced also by Sarawak from microalgae.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg revealed this to the press at the launching of the Chitose Carbon Capture Central Sarawak (C4 Sarawak) at Sarawak Energy Berhad’s Sejingkat Power Plant here today.

“Of course,” he said, when asked by a reporter whether the Sarawak boutique airline would be using the SAF produced in Sarawak’s own backyard.

Elaborating, Abang Johari said he would make a related announcement during the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (Lima) 2023, which will be held from May 23 to 27.

“I will make an announcement during the LIMA (exhibition), you just wait,” he added.

For the record, Sarawak’s own boutique airline is expected to commence operation within three years’ time following the green light given by the federal government.

Among those present at the launching ceremony were Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, Sarawak State Secretary-cum-Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) chairman Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Sarawak Energy’s chairman Datuk Amar Abdul Hamed Sepawi, Deputy Chief of Mission from the Embassy of Japan Karimata Atsushi, Chitose Group founder and chief executive officer (CEO) Dr Tomohiro Fujita, Sarawak Energy Group CEO Datu Sharbini Suhaili and SBC CEO Dr Yeo Tiong Chia. — DayakDaily
