KUCHING, Feb 18: Sibu has the potential to become a hub for international bunkering facilities in line with Sarawak’s move towards green methanol production.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that located in the central region of Sarawak, Sibu is also a central shipbuilding and repairing industry.

“While the international shipping companies transition from oil-based engines to methanol engines, the demand for green methanol arises.

“As Sarawak aims to produce green methanol, this will position Sibu’s ship manufacturers to serve as the hub for the international shipping line,” he said during the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Chinese New Year celebration 2024 held in conjunction with the party’s 65th anniversary in Sibu yesterday.

Meanwhile, Abang Johari said he is confident that Sarawak’s revenue will continue to increase in 2024 from the RM13 billion collected in 2023.

He also assured Sarawak would not spend excessively to ensure the State was prepared for any eventuality. — DayakDaily
