BINTULU, Feb 18: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) will not backstab other component parties in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), says its president Dato Seri Tiong King Sing.

He said all PDP members unanimously pledged their support to Sarawak’s GPS government under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to maintain the unity and cooperation.

“You (Abang Johari) don’t have to worry. We in PDP will not do any backstabbing of any component party.

“However, sometimes when we do not ‘play with’ (disturb) other people, they ‘kong kali kong’ against us. We just want to maintain the unity,” he said when speaking during PDP’s Chinese New Year open house at Bintulu Civic Centre here today.

GPS has four component parties namely, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), and PDP.

PDP landed in hot water when it signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the then local opposition party Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) on July 13, 2023.

Rumours have been rife that the MoU would now lead to PSB’s disbandment and its party members would join PDP en bloc.

Founded in 2014, PSB—formerly known as United People’s Party (UPP), was actually a splinter party of SUPP. — DayakDaily
