KUCHING, Jan 14: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has dismissed allegations that the State’s achievements are the result of taking advantage of political dynamics, calling such claims a “jealousy narrative.”
He urged critics to delve deeper into the reasons behind Sarawak’s success, which he attributed to sound economic policies and a steadfast commitment to political stability.
“If Sarawak becomes too advanced, don’t be jealous. This is a narrative of jealousy. That is why I believe this narrative must be examined.
“Most of the narratives I have observed are rooted in envy. People naturally envy others’ success and may look for ways to bring them down. Such intentions are unacceptable,” he said during a townhall session commemorating his 8th anniversary as Premier at the Hikmah Exchange and Event Centre (HEEC) last night (Jan 13).
Abang Johari also refuted claims that Sarawak’s progress stemmed from exploiting political shifts.
Instead, he highlighted Sarawak’s unwavering support for Malaysia’s leaders, including Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He clarified that Sarawak’s backing of the unity government following the recent General Election was aimed solely at ensuring political stability to address pressing external challenges such as climate change and global economic uncertainties.
“In times of external challenges, Malaysia must have a strong and stable government to defend and develop the country. This is the narrative we need,” he said. – DayakDaily
