KUCHING, Feb 15: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has stated that the new administrative building in Petra Jaya, nicknamed the ‘White House’ has yet to be given an official name.
Abang Johari, who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) President, jokingly remarked that Sarawak is not America when the new office was being referred to as the ‘White House’, and added no officials have moved into the building yet.
“It (administrative office) is not complete yet. (Nobody) has moved in. I don’t know and I’ve never been there (myself). That is the State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki’s work,” he said at the press conference during the PBB’s 16th triennial general meeting (TGM) at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.

He added that the new building is necessary as the current administrative office located at the Wisma Bapa Malaysia is too open for the public.
“(The construction of the new building) was recommended by the security. The Wisma Bapa Malaysia building is too accessible so we need a more secure office because all the government secrets are there,” he said at a press conference at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) during PBB’s 16th triennial general meeting (TGM).
Located just in front of Datuk Amar Abang Haji Suleiman bin Haji Taha Roundabout (Wisma Sesco roundabout in Petra Jaya), the new facility will be near other government buildings such as Wisma Pelita, Wisma Sumber Alam, Wisma Sesco and the Sarawak State Library (opposite).
The new administrative building is coming close to a completion with a large building at least three storeys high, flanked by two double-storey structures on either side. –DayakDaily
