ABU DHABI, Nov 7: Sarawak is exploring ways to assist Johor with a stable clean energy supply, noting the limitations of relying solely on solar power.

Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said there is a common economic zone between Johor and Singapore, and Johor has engaged with Sarawak on the potential to supply power to Johor.

ā€œBecause Johor now depends on solar energy, which sometimes there is a problem of consistency.

But we are working out how best for us to help Johor, or Peninsular Malaysia for that matter, in terms of clean energy supply,ā€ he revealed during an exclusive interview with news portal Nikkei Asia at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition Conference (ADIPEC) 2024 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) yesterday (Nov 6).

A video recording of the interview was made available to DayakDaily today, thanks to ADIPEC team.

Prior to that, Abang Johari highlighted that Sarawak has been supplying electricity to West Kalimantan, Indonesia for four years and will collaborate further in one project in North Kalimantan to provide power to Nusantara, the new capital of Indonesia.

He also said Sarawak is eyeing for energy collaboration to provide power to Brunei Darussalam, Singapore and West Malaysia.

Back in June this year, Bernama reported that Johor is interested in partnering with Sarawak to explore opportunities in renewable energy, particularly in the field of hydrogen technology.

In the same report, Johor Sustainability Centre chairman Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad was quoted to have said that Johor noted that Sarawak intends to export renewable energy to Singapore, and if it utilises hydrogen technology, Johor can learn from this. ā€” DayakDaily
