KUCHING, Nov 3: Sarawak aims to have five data centres that will create further economic growth for Sarawak through cross-border data flow by 2030, says Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said currently, the State has a Tier IV data centre, which is also a carrier-neutral and certified green facility data centre.
“I believe Sarawak is a supreme location for investment in data centres.
“We have the space, and more importantly, we can supply reliable, sustainable energy to fuel these data centres—meaning green energy,” he said during the International Business Review (IBR) Borneo Awards 2023 held at Riverside Majestic Hotel earlier tonight.
Located in Santubong, The Santubong Data Centre is the first Tier IV facility in Malaysia, of which Tier IV is the highest class certification for a data centre.
Also present were Dewan Negara president Senator Tan Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and wife Puan Sri Fauziah Sanusi; Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian; and IBR Asia Group chief executive officer Dato Beatrice Nirmala.
In a separate report dated Sept 19, Abang Johari stated that Sarawak is looking at the possibility of supplying power to four Tier IV artificial intelligence (AI) data centres, which will be set up by Global Resources Management (GRM) Sdn Bhd in the region.
One of the data centres would be established in Sarawak, followed by one in Singapore and two in Peninsular Malaysia. — DayakDaily
