MIRI, Feb 1: The Sarawak government will implement the upgrading of the existing road connecting Miri to Marudi Bridge this year.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said this came following the delivery of the Marudi Bridge construction project last year.

“When we promise, we deliver. Some make promises but do not fulfill them.

“However, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) makes a promise and delivers,” he said during the Chinese New Year (CNY) 2025 Dinner organised by Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Miri Division, which was broadcast live by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) on Facebook last night (Jan 31).

He further announced plans to extend the road from Marudi Bridge towards Long Terawan and Long Iman, which will also connect to Long Lama. This network will then link to Gunung Buda in Limbang.

He also said the road will be connected to the Sabah-Sarawak Link Road (SSLR) and further access to Belaga and the Pan Borneo Highway.

“Just imagine the vast hinterland we have, which will become an economic zone for Greater Miri.

“Additionally, we must upgrade Subis, as Niah is now a UNESCO heritage site,” he explained.

The road infrastructure project is part of the Greater Miri Development Master Plan (2021-2023), which aims to position Miri city as an economic hub for Miri Division and Northern Sarawak in particular and Sarawak in general. – DayakDaily
