KUCHING, April 15: The passing of former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is a profound loss to the nation, says Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who described the late statesman’s contributions as unwavering and deeply impactful.
In a letter addressed to Tun Jeanne Abdullah and family yesterday evening (April 14), the Premier expressed his deepest condolences and sympathies, acknowledging the grief shared by Malaysians across the country.
“My wife, Puan Sri Hajjah Juma’ani (Tuanku Bujang), and I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to Tun and all family members on the passing of Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi on Sunday night. I hope Tun and the family remain strong in facing this trial, and may everything be eased,” he stated in a statement today.
Abdullah, who served as Malaysia’s fifth Prime Minister from 2003 to 2009, was widely respected for his leadership and contributions to the nation.
“His passing is undoubtedly a great loss to the country. As Prime Minister, the late Tun rendered unwavering service to the nation,” he added.
The Premier also mentioned that Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof represented the Sarawak government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) at the state funeral ceremony held at the National Mosque in Kuala Lumpur at 11am today.
Abang Johari offered prayers on behalf of Sarawak: “I, on behalf of my family and the people of Sarawak, pray that Allah SWT showers His mercy upon the soul of the late Tun and grants him a place among the righteous. Amin.”
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister’s Department stated that the funeral prayer will be performed after the zuhur prayer at the National Mosque, and the burial will follow at the Heroes’ Mausoleum.
Abdullah breathed his last at the National Heart Institute (IJN) at 7.10pm last night at the age of 85. — DayakDaily
