KUCHING, March 31: The New Samariang Islamic Cemetery Complex (SICC) is a fulfilment of the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem’s wish.
According to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, during Adenan’s (affectionately known as ‘Tok Nan’) visit to the Samariang Islamic cemetery many years back, he requested that facilities be built in the cemetery area for visitors’ comfort while visiting their departed loved ones.
“So, thank God, I was able to fulfil the wishes of the late Tok Nan and also to the Muslim community here by building this facility,” he said during the launching ceremony of the SICC here today.
He added that non-Muslims are also allowed to be in the complex to attend the funeral ceremony of their Muslim family members.
“We also have a society where one of our family members is married to a non-Muslim, and therefore the non-Muslim families can get together to see the burial process,” he said. — DayakDaily
