KUCHING, March 31: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has approved a new plot of land to expand the Samariang Muslim cemetery.

Abang Johari said the new land, located behind the cemetery area, can cater to the demand in Samariang Muslim cemetery until 2050.

“We are also developing a cemetery in Matang, Bako, and Santubong with the same structure and layout as what has been done in the Samarang Muslim cemetery,” he told a press conference today after officiating at the launching ceremony of the new Samariang Islamic Cemetery Complex (SICC) here today.

According to Abang Johari, there is also already a new Muslim cemetery area at Jalan Oya in Sibu to cater for the local population since the cemetery at Al-Qadim Mosque is almost full.

“The same is being implemented in Miri,” he added.

On the same note, Abang Johari said the Sarawak government wants to standardise information and data for Muslim cemeteries to make it easier for family members to find the graves of their loved ones.

He also said the information and data are stored in a digital platform.

“With the website, we will know where our ancestors are buried,” he added. — DayakDaily
