DARO, Sept 3: A new 1.48km road will be built to create a circular road encircling Daro town, says Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He noted that Daro’s rapid development is met with traffic congestion problems, especially when the town only has one main road with two lanes.
He recalled that in his past visit to Daro, the elected representative (Safiee Ahmad) requested a traffic light system to ease the traffic congestion.
However, the traffic light system seems only to ease the traffic flow while the congestion continues due to the increased number of visitors to the town.
“Thus, he (Safiee) has requested to construct a circular road to encircle the town and connect back to the main road.
“I approve this proposed road,” Abang Johari said during Daro Festival 2023 closing ceremony and people’s projects handover ceremony in Daro today.
Abang Johari also mentioned that the 6.8km road from Muara Lassa Bridge to Daro town would be widened from two lanes to a dual carriageway, adding that the road construction would take about three years to complete.
“This is because I feel that in the next five to ten years, vehicles coming into Daro will increase due to the road accessibility and better connectivity to Sibu and other cities,” he added.
Earlier, Safiee, in his speech, requested the construction of the circular road on unrestricted land with an estimated cost of RM17 million.
The road would complement other development projects in Daro, including a 5-acre ‘pasar tani’ (market), RM7 million ‘Anjung Usahawan’, a new housing area with 40 units, and Daro Waterfront.
Amongst those present at the event were Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment) and Kuala Rajang assemblyman Datuk Len Talif Salleh; Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs and UKAS) and Semop assemblyman Datuk Abdullah Saidol; Igan MP Ahmad Johnie Zawawi; Safiee; Deputy Secretary of the Sarawak Government (Economic and Development Plan) Datu Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel and Mukah resident Kueh Lei Poh. — DayakDaily
