KUCHING, Sept 2: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg stressed the significance of never backstabbing friends and allies in the political arena.
Speaking during the closing ceremony of SUPP Special Convention 2023 held in conjunction with 60 years of Sarawak’s independence held at SUPP headquarters today, Abang Johari, who is also Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman, highlighted the shining example of the relationship between Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) and Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP).
He said the two parties had been in partnership since 1970, helping each other throughout the decades as well as experiencing ups and downs together.
He also said that when PBB was facing problems, SUPP was there in the past, and likewise, when SUPP had problems, PBB was there to help.
“That is what we call partnership. Macam ‘bini sama suami’. So, it became a co-family with extended family members like Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
“We become a big family where we have one goal to uphold the pride and honour of Sarawak so that we are respected by other people,” he added.
Abang Johari also gave a reminder that the next State election is expected to be held in three years, and all component parties must work hard.
According to him, GPS, as a Sarawak-based coalition, will contest all 82 seats to protect Sarawak at all costs.
“Though we are partners with the unity federal government, it is because we prioritise the nation’s stability.
“Of course, they need us too. If we pull out our support, they will collapse too,” he said. — DayakDaily
