KUCHING, Feb 22: Daro has immense potential for carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS), says Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“This area has a bright economic potential because of its mangrove areas, which can store carbon.

“This means that with carbon stored here, it will generate new income under carbon trading,” he said.

He said this during the launching of the Muara Lassa Bridge in Daro, Mukah, today which was streamed live via the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) Facebook page.

He added that Daro’s potential for CCUS and the Muara Lassa Bridge, when complemented with the Rajang Bridge, which is expected to be completed by next month, will boost economic activities in the area.

The Muara Lassa Bridge is Sarawak’s second-longest bridge after the Batang Lupar Bridge, which connects the Daro mainland with Pulau Bruit in the Mukah division.

The bridge, spanning 2.43km and costing nearly RM600 million, began construction in 2019 and was opened to the public on Jan 9 this year.
