KUCHING, Nov 12: “Let’s make Sarawak the Bavaria of Malaysia,” says Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Abang Johari said he intends to make Sarawak like Bavaria, a state that lifted Germany’s name worldwide.

“I want Sarawak to become like Bavaria, the state that made Germany what it is today,” said Abang Johari when officiating at the closing ceremony of the ‘Empowering Betong Division Grassroots Administrative Institution’ seminar held at Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan Hall in Betong today.

Bavaria is the biggest state in Germany and has one of the largest economies among the German states, giving it the status of a wealthy German region and one of the most well-developed regions in Europe.

Because of this, Abang Johari hoped Sarawak could attain the same status and propel itself and Malaysia to greater heights.

On another note, Abang Johari said the Sarawak administration under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government is unique as it includes participation from the grassroots leaders, which enables both parties to have a closer connection.

“They are important because the people in the area respect those who become leaders at the grassroots level,” he said. — DayakDaily
