KOTA SAMARAHAN, July 15: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has again led the Sarawak Merdeka Convoy, this time from Serian to Samarahan division today.
The convoy, consisting of over 400 vehicles, including 170 big bikes, departed from Serian Conference Centre (SSC) at 12.58pm.
Sending off the convoy was Sarawak Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn.
The convoy stopped at Siburan before continuing their journey and reached the Summer Mall here at 2.56pm.
Afterwards, Abang Johari witnessed the handing over the Sarawak flag and the Sarawak 60 Years Independence flag from Serian resident Selamat Jati Yanjah to Samarahan resident Mohamad Irwan Bahari Bujang.
Amongst those present at the Summer Mall ceremony were the Premier’s wife Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang; Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar; Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and wife Datin Sri Zuraini Abdul Jabbar; Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki; Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali; Deputy Sarawak DUN Speaker Dato Idris Buang; and Samarahan resident Mohamad Irwan Bahari Bujang.
Previously, Abang Johari led the same convoy during its inauguration for a distance of 168.3km from Miri to Bintulu on June 10.
The Sarawak Merdeka Convoy from Lawas to Kuching is part of the programmes organised in conjunction with the Sarawak’s 60th Anniversary celebrations themed ‘Sarawak Maju Makmur’.
The Convoy is expected to end their journey when they reach Kuching on July 20. — DayakDaily
