KUCHING, Oct 21: A Sarawakian student at the University of Oxford was conferred with a rare distinction award in the Diplomatic Studies Programme, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

In lauding this achievement, Abang Johari expressed his delight, saying that this proves that Sarawakians can become a leading person in any field of study if nurtured properly.

“Many more of our Sarawakian children have succeeded. That’s why talent development is very important for us to transform our economy,” he said.

Abang Johari said this during the Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak 2023 dinner held in conjunction with the 60th year of Sarawak’s Independence at Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre streamed live via Sarawak Public Communication Unit’s (Ukas) Facebook page tonight.

According to a news report from New Sarawak Tribune on Oct 20, Kuching-born Syed Nizamuddin Khassim received two distinctions in his Diplomatic Studies Programme while pending final results from cumulative assessments set to be certified by the Diplomatic Studies Programme’s Board of Examiners this November.

This is his second master’s degree after finishing his Masters in Public Administration (MPA) at the University of Malaya in 2018.

Previously, Syed Nizamuddin served as Malaysia’s diplomat as First Secretary at the Embassy of Malaysia in Paris from 2018-2022 before taking a sabbatical to pursue his studies at Oxford.
