KUCHING, May 27: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg hopes the national media conference can become an annual event in Sarawak.

Abang Johari noted that the Sarawak Media Conference (SMEC) 2024, which was held on May 26, discussed the challenges faced by the media industry due to the rapid development of technology, such as generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and satellite issues, including policies related to journalism.

“Of course, we also share our joy in the success that has been achieved in the media industry, and definitely, we have to find a new direction in the midst of the challenges facing us today.

“This is the first time that Sarawak has organised such an event, and hopefully, it will be held every year in Sarawak,” he said during National Journalists’ Day (Hawana) Summit 2024, which was held at Waterfront Hotel here today.

Meanwhile, Abang Johari also suggested that the next International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS) include an exhibition of equipment used by media practitioners.

He added apart from showcasing digital and technological infrastructure, the hardware used by journalists should also be exhibited, especially the latest technology. — DayakDaily
