KUCHING, Jan 27: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is optimistic that the long-awaited takeover of MASwings will be finalised before Hari Raya Puasa, marking a significant step toward the State’s ambition of establishing its own airline.
Hari Raya Puasa is anticipated to be celebrated on March 31, 2025.
“I sincerely hope that after the New Year and before Hari Raya Puasa, we will witness the realisation of our ambition to have our own airline with the takeover of MASwings from the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG).
“The process of evaluation has been completed, and soon we will sign the agreement for the takeover,” Abang Johari said in his Chinese New Year message today.
With a business model tailored to Sarawak’s needs and plans for a new ultra-modern international airport in Kuching, Abang Johari expressed confidence that the State’s airline could grow into a competitive regional carrier while positioning Kuching as an aviation hub.
In his closing remarks, Abang Johari extended warm wishes to the Chinese community, encouraging all Sarawakians to celebrate in an atmosphere of harmony, warmth, and peace.
“To our Chinese friends, I wish you joy and prosperity as you celebrate the New Year.
“To friends from other communities, I encourage you to visit your Chinese friends, embracing the spirit of mutual respect for the different religions and cultures in our State,” he added. – DayakDaily
