KUCHING, Aug 13: There is high investor confidence in Sarawak as the State aims to build a resilient and sustainable economy by 2030, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He noted that as Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) reported a stronger growth of 8.9 per cent for the second quarter of 2022 in the Malaysian economy, this augurs well for the Sarawak economy.

“For Sarawak, as we are heading towards a developed State (status) by 2030, in the long term we want our GDP growth to be in the range of 6 to 8 per cent.

“Alhamdulillah, I see that investor confidence in Sarawak’s economy is high, with investment reaching a RM60 billion injection into our economy.

“I believe that Sarawakians should improve their expertise and skills so that we can advance our State in a sustainable economy, especially developing rural areas and so that they can enjoy the modern facilities to create a modern ‘Malaysian Family’ (concept) within the beautiful Sarawak Family,” he said when launching the Sarawak-level National Day month and flying Jalur Gemilang 2022 held at Sarawak State Assembly (DUN) Complex today.

In previous reports, Abang Johari announced that the Sarawak government has committed to a RM63 billion investment to implement plans under the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

The target under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) and PCDS 2030 is for the economy to grow at an average of 6 per cent to 8 per cent per annum. — DayakDaily
