KUCHING, Oct 29: Development Bank of Sarawak (DBOS) Berhad was praised as one of the best-run banks in Malaysia, said Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
According to Abang Johari, this commendation comes from Finance Minister Senator Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz himself when met three months ago.
“Commendable support of DBOS’s critical role as a development financial institution has also been recognised by the Federal government through the approval of DBOS by the Ministry of Finance in its list of approved financial institutions in November 2018.
“This approval has enabled DBOS to broaden the base of its potential depositors, allowing it to accept deposits from a spectrum of entities which includes the State government and its agencies and government-linked companies (GLCs),” he said during the DBOS 5th Anniversary Dinner streamed live via Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) Facebook page earlier tonight.
Meanwhile, Abang Johari pointed out that Sarawak needs to be in control of its development instead of depending on others.
He said Sarawak used to depend heavily on the Federal government to fund its infrastructure and utility projects, particularly in the rural areas.
“This often left us in a difficult situation as funds from the Federal government are not easy to come by, especially when we are not on the same political platform.
“We had bad experiences when many projects in Sarawak were cancelled during Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) 22 months in power, but thank God, we have the strength to deliver the projects for the benefit of the rakyat (people), particularly through alternative financing provided by DBOS,” he added. — DayakDaily
