SIBU, March 1: The completion of the new Sibu Jaya-Lanang road in a year will boost the development of economic activities in the area, says Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“The Sibu Jaya-Lanang road will be completed in a year, and Sibu Jaya will be a centre for providing services to the people who migrated here and will be connected with Lanang to Bintangor, to Sarikei and then to Tanjung Manis,” he said while inaugurating the Al-Madinah Al-Husna Mosque in Sibu Jaya today.

Expressing his gratefulness that Sibu Jaya is developing well, he said it was a coincidence that he was once the minister in charge of housing and revealed Sibu Jaya as having many problems in the beginning.

However, he added that the Sarawak government managed to bring about change and formulate a plan that eventually allowed Sibu Jaya to develop as rapidly as it does today.

“This is our plan, (and) thanks to (the) cooperation (among the people), we can develop important centres if we develop our society,” he said.

Meanwhile, he also mentioned that many people from Peninsular Malaysia came to Sarawak because they were impressed by the new economic efforts implemented by the State. — DayakDaily
