KUCHING, April 17: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has revealed plans to increase Bintulu’s electrical power supply to 1500MW by 2028, in conjunction with the expansion of the Samalaju Industrial Park (SIP).

He said this during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering organised by Bintulu Development Agency (BDA) at Naim Paragon Street Mall, Bintulu today.

According to Abang Johari, the electrical power supply in Bintulu will undergo a two-phase expansion with the first phase increasing production 1000MW and the second phase an additional 500MW, resulting in a total capacity of 1500MW.

“This (electrical power supply expansion) will be commissioned in 2028 with the power plan implementation starting today,” he said.

In addition, Abang Johari also said that Petronas has fulfilled their responsibilities in increasing the gas production from 450 million to 1200 million standard cubic feet (SCF).

“This is because the Sarawak government has a clear direction in developing gas-based industries. We (Sarawak) will be busy in these coming five years regarding electric energy in Bintulu,” said Abang Johari.

Also present at the Aidilfitri gathering were Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development of Sarawak Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, Deputy Minister of Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Syaeed Aman Ghazali, and BDA deputy chairman Dato Haidar Khan Asghar Khan. — DayakDaily
