Premier appointed Chief Patron of Sarawak-Australia Business Chamber

KUCHING, Aug 29: The Sarawak-Australia Business Chamber (SABC) has officially invited Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to be the Chief Patron of the Chamber.

Rodger Chan Siong Boh, President of SABC, extended the invitation in a letter dated Aug 28, emphasising the importance of the Premier’s role as Chief Patron in assisting SABC in moving forward and improving Sarawak-Australian trade relations.

“SABC or ‘Pertubuhan Perdagangan Australia-Sarawak’ is a Chamber of Commerce and Industry registered with the Registrar of Society (ROS) Malaysia.

“SABC serves as a platform for her members to enhance trade and relations between Sarawak and Australia.

“SABC endeavours to work closely with the business community and governments of Australia and Sarawak to promote and enhance bilateral trade and relations between Sarawak and Australia,” read the letter.

Chan continued: “SABC is a founding member and lead partner of the Borneo Economic Community (BEC), which comprises community, government, and business leaders from Kalimantan, Brunei, Sarawak, Sabah, and Labuan.

“SABC has established linkages and signed MOUs with Australia Malaysia Business Council (AMBC), which included AMBC Victoria and AMBC Queensland. SABC is in the process of signing MOUs with AMBC in New South Wales, Western Australia and South Australia, all of which have agreed to do so.”

He further expressed confidence that the Premier’s acceptance of the role would significantly motivate the Chamber to fulfil its mission of advancing trade and economic ties between Sarawak and Australia.
