Premier Abang Johari: Rimbunan Hijau Group exemplifies global success, shines as S’wak’s timber industry leader

KUCHING, May 14: The Rimbunan Hijau Group (RH Group) has been hailed as a key driver of Sarawak’s industrial transformation and a shining example of local success on the international stage, as it marked its 50th anniversary with a Golden Jubilee celebration yesterday (May 13).

According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) report, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who officiated the event at the Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud Chancellor Hall, University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) in Sibu, described RH Group’s remarkable journey as proof that Sarawak-based companies can compete and thrive on the global stage.

“RH Group has emerged as a shining star from Sarawak, leading the timber industry with unmatched excellence and becoming a source of pride for us all,” he said.

Having started as a local logging company, RH Group has since diversified across multiple sectors and achieved international recognition, further solidifying its reputation as one of Sarawak’s most successful corporate entities.

Abang Johari noted that Sarawak is currently undergoing a major economic transformation, with a strong focus on building a green economy and advancing renewable energy initiatives.

He stressed that companies like RH Group will play an essential role in this shift.

“We are determined to position Sarawak as a green energy hub in Southeast Asia, and companies like RH Group are among the key players in realising this mission,” he added.

Following his speech, the Premier witnessed a symbolic handover marking RH Group’s new milestone achievement as it secured three recognitions from the Malaysia Book of Records.

Among the distinguished guests were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister for Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, and RH Group managing director Datuk Tiong Thai King.

Also in attendance were several deputy ministers and senior state officials, including Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, Dato Ibrahim Baki, and Datu Hii Chang Kee. — DayakDaily
