First phase of RM3 mln Jalan Borneo Heights street lighting project to be completed by Oct 2026

KUCHING, May 14: The first phase of the Jalan Borneo Heights street lighting project is expected to be completed by October 2026.

Funded with approximately RM3 million from the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA), the project spans over 11km, starting from Pulapol (Police Training School) to Kampung Emperoh Gerung.

Deputy Minister of Transport (Aviation and Roads) Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said the project involves the installation of 338 streetlight poles equipped with LED bulbs.

“For Phase I of the project, which has since started from April 4 this year, it is scheduled for completion in October 2026.

“After completion of Phase I, we will continue with Phase II up to Kpg Anah Rais,” Dr Jerip said at a briefing with Public Works Department (JKR) and the contract at Padawan sub-district office today.

The meeting was also attended by community leaders and village chiefs from areas affected by the project.

According to Dr Jerip, the street lighting initiative will be implemented in three phases, covering roads leading to villages in Mambong constituency.

Meanwhile, JKR said all the poles are erected within road reserve areas. – DayakDaily
