KUCHING, Nov 16: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has disclosed that 34 out of 80 development projects worth RM368.6 million in Serian division have been fully completed.
“Serian has a total of 80 projects, including four non-physical projects, with a total ceiling of RM368.6 million.
“Out of these 80 projects, 34 have been completed (42 per cent), 12 are in various stages of implementation (15 per cent), and 30 are in the planning stage.
“This means that by the end of the Twelfth Malaysia Plan (12MP), including the mid-term review, we should be able to implement all the 80 projects,” he told reporters after chairing the State Development Coordination Committee Meeting (SDCCM) held today in Serian, which was streamed live via Sarawak Public Communication Unit’s (Ukas) Facebook page.
Abang Johari also stated that he has requested that the greater development of Kuching include a mechanism for monitoring the developments in Serian.
Furthermore, during the meeting, the Premier has set a target for Serian’s gross domestic product (GDP) to reach RM1.4 billion by 2030, with the goal of developing Serian into a ‘mini New Zealand’ by 2030.
He revealed that Serian’s GDP currently stands at RM600 million, and could hit the new target by 2030.
According to the Premier, the main objective of the State Development Coordination Committee is to update project implementation, addressing issues that may arise during the process.
The SDCCM held today is the fifth meeting for 2023, with previous meetings being held in Kapit, Miri, Lawas and Sibu. — DayakDaily
