Power talk at Woman Power Club’s ‘Smashing Stereotypes’ talk show

KUCHING, March 15: The Woman Power Club organised their inaugural talk show titled ‘Smashing Stereotypes’ in conjunction with International Women’s Day (IWD) at Old Courthouse Kuching on March 8.

Attended by 50 participants from all walks of life, the talk show featured successful and inspiring Sarawakian women from different backgrounds and topics centered around the campaign theme for IWD 2022, #BreaktheBias.

“The main objective was to discuss ways of identifying challenges that are faced by the women of the society today which included topics such as boosting career prospects and personal growth in the workplace and sharing on how collectively women can contribute and become the engines of global economic growth,” the Club said in a statement today.


The power panel was studded by renowned women from Sarawak including X-Fab Sarawak director of Human Resources, Maureen Labarge; lawyer-cum-lecturer Donna Barclay and Kenanga Investment Bank regional director MK Tan.

The event was keynoted by Kuching Creative Cities Network strategic director Karen Shepherd who highlighted, based on her own working experience, the change that women are leading in the creative industry, and the limitless potential that they can have within this ecosystem.

On women equality, she highlighted that the backbone of a successful and thriving society is where difference is valued and celebrated, not where one’s rights are suppressed.

Meanwhile, performances were also held by renowned local singer-songwriter, Steff Fleur alongside guitarist Nigel Maverick. They played their self-composed song titled ‘If You Don’t Love Me Now’.

Ballet dancers from La Danse Studio Sarawak were also part of the performances for the night.

The Woman Power Club is a non-profit organisation from Kuching, Sarawak which aims to feature inspirational women from different background to share their insights and to showcase talents – both men and women to inspire others to live out their limitless potential.
