SIBU, Nov 13: A power supply interruption at the Salim Raw Water Intake earlier today has caused temporary water supply disruptions across several parts of Sibu.

In a statement posted on its social media, Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd said the incident occurred following a power trip by Sarawak Energy, which affected the operation of the Raw Water Pumps (RWPs) responsible for channelling raw water to treatment facilities.

“Power supply tripped twice with the first from 10.50am to 12.00noon for about 70 minutes, and again from 3.40pm to 4.30pm for about 50 minutes, disrupting the raw water pumping system.

“The supply has since been restored to normal, and water pressure is now gradually building up,” Sarawak Water said.

The company added that consumers in various parts of Sibu may have experienced low water pressure or temporary interruptions in supply during the affected periods.

Its technical team is currently monitoring reservoir levels to ensure the system stabilises and returns to full normal operation as soon as possible.

“Sarawak Water sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused and appreciates the patience and understanding of affected residents,” the statement read.

The utility company also assured the public that every effort is being made to restore normal water supply quickly and safely, emphasising its commitment to ensuring a stable and reliable water service for all consumers. — DayakDaily
