KUCHING, June 20: The election of Former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Tan Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar as Dewan Negara president shows that Sarawak is doing well at the federal level, says political pundit Dato Peter Minos.
In a press statement issued today, Minos noted that this contributed to the number of Sarawakians holding top positions at the federal level, which include Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, who is Deputy Prime Minister and Plantation and Commodities Minister; Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi who is Works Minister; and Dato Sri Tiong King Sing who helms the Tourism, Arts, and Culture Ministry.
“The DPM (deputy prime minister) post for Sarawak was a big surprise and not quite expected; so is the Dewan Negara presidency.
“The new Dewan Negara Speaker is eminently qualified to be there, being a former effective and proactive de facto Law Minister and doing much for Sarawak—that we all know.
“All (this) will usher in many good things for Sarawak, now ably and effectively led by a very effective and active Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government and leader.”
Minos added that this shows that the federal government trusts and respects the Sarawak government and GPS.
“Of the years to come, I can see more robust economic development in Sarawak and overall betterment in all aspects.
“The creation of GPS has proven its success in handling Sarawak’s relations with the federal side, and that success is bearing fruits. We in Sarawak are, of course, happy and pleased.
“It is great to be appreciated, recognised, and acknowledged,” he said. — DayakDaily
